FIND A STONE

This website documents stones in the "old" portion of St. Matthew's Cemetery, which is divded by an aisle that runs up the middle of the hill. The new portion can be found on the far right side of the cemetery, when looking up the hill from Route 7.

FIRST

press one of the buttons above to explore either stones on the right side of the cemetery or the left. Once one of the documents is open, simultaneously press CTRL and F on your keyboard. You can then type in the box that appears to search for a specific name. You may type in a person's first name alone, last name alone, or first and last name together in the format: LAST NAME, FIRST NAME. Make sure the name is spelled correctly!

PLOT

indicates the position of the stone in relation to Route 7. Increasing plot numbers move up the hill, farther from Route 7. Odd number plots are on the right side of the cemetery, and even number plots are on the left. Refer to the Cemetery Map for a clearer picture of where plots lie within the cemetery.

ROW

indicates the position of the stone within each plot. The first row in a plot moving up the hill is Row A. If there is a second row after this, it is Row B, and if there is a third row in the plot it is Row C. Refer to the Cemetery Map for a clearer understanding of where rows fall within a plot.

SPACE

indicates the position of the stone in each row. On both sides of the cemetery, stones are numbered from LEFT to RIGHT.

PARENTHESES

indicate that a single stone and burial space are shared by two or more people.

SPECIAL NOTES

include symbols such as M (Missing), U (Unidentifiable), UD (Upside Down), F (Fallen), B (Broken) and indications for veterans and other unique circumstances.
